June 20, 2104 - Boardman River Flood Debris Removal Project

It rained HARD! most of the day.

We were never in a group in one place long enough to get a good group picture.

Steve Largent, Nick and Neal, the two interns from the GTCD, Paul Ton, Norm Fred, Dan Dixon and John Bailey and John Wyrrus, 3 interested homeowners came out in the rain to help out.

The river was high and fast and muddy and we didn't want to paddle in it today.

The plan was to go after the docks and decks we could get to from the shore without paddling. We knew where they were from a previous recon trip.  Finding them was not a problem.

We showed John Bailey his dock that we will get back to him later when the water is lower.

We took out two docks at a bridge and moved another one to a homeowner's house where he used it as a bridge over a swampy area in his woods.  We try to reuse as many of these as we can.

After we got that done, we switched gears and helped Steve, Nick and Neal clear three trees from the river near John Wyrrus' house.  That was an effort but Steve showed us how it's done right.

We all got very wet and some of us got very cold but we had fun and the river is a cleaner and safer place now.

Pictures of the projects are here.
