Come join us on a leisurely trip on the West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay out to the island, and then return in the early afternoon. Power Island has an area of 202 acres, and has been donated to the people of Grand Traverse County as a public park. "Consider it a shimmering kingdom surrounded by a moat, but once you cross the watery divide, the realm is yours."

The plan is to launch from Bowers Harbor in the late morning, and have lunch on the beach - there are picnic tables in the shade, drinking water and restroom facilities there.  We will probably take a swim if the mood strikes us.

The distance from Bowers Harbor to Power Island is about 2.5 miles.  It's about an hour each way, depending on the wind and the abilities of the group.  If you are not sure if you are up to the challenge of a trip across the Bay, give us a call to talk about it.  Specifically, your kayak must have sealed bulkheads or flotation in BOTH the front and back of your boat.  For safety reasons, we will expect everyone to keep within talking distance while we are crossing over, to assure that power boats and jet skis will see us as a group.  This is one of our favorite local outings - the perfect trip!
