Trip Reports

August 10 Lower Platte

Published on 8/10/2011
Today's trip was named earlier in the week, "Is there another mid-week Paddle?"  The ones that posed the question and a couple others showed up to a windy cool August Day which normally is the easiest paddle in Michigan.  Thanks to the wind and a circumvention around Loon Lake we made it a bit of a fun workout on a beautiful summer day. The five in kayaks, Marlene & Marv, Tracie, Linda, and Peg.

A mom and her son from the Province of France photographed our frequent lunch take-out.  A couple from Ohio occupied the French table after they took our picture and floated west. A father giving his son fishing tips took our put-in photo.

Though it was not to be a clean-up the group could not resist. Linda picked out a vintage 7-up can, Marlene a full Busch can and a whisky bottle, Tracie tried out her new Bed Bath Beyond basket for future clean-ups, filling it to the brim and talking how she was going to make it better before the next clean-up.

Wild life treated us well, especially around the Loon...a Bald Eagles showing off in wind acrobatics, handful of herons, frogs, turtles, bright green bugs on Marv, yellow and wild pink roses.

The group discussed what a workout it would be to start at Lake Michigan, (Marv and Marlene have done this) our normal take-out, paddle upstream, lunch at our normal put-in and then float back to Sleeping Bear Dunes parking lot.  Check the Event Calendar for future upstream/downstream paddling. See you on the Water.
