Haserot Beach to Old Mission Point 08/23/2022

Kathleen M Imre | Published on 8/23/2022

The day was picture-perfect for our East Bay paddle. There was a slight breeze from the north, sunshine, and the temps reached the low 80’s by late morning. As we helped each other unload our kayaks and paddled away from Haserot Beach, the early morning’s residual fog began to dissipate. There were eight paddlers: Trish and Howie, Irene and Paul, Angie, Glenn, Jacqui, and I. Glenn paddled a short way with us but then unfortunately returned to shore as his shoulder was acting up (and I know ALL about fussy shoulders)!

The water was calm and we could clearly see the fish swimming beneath our kayaks. One of the tall ships had set sail, and we watched her sails being raised as she headed out. There were several Common Merganser families feeding in one of the small coves. With conditions so pleasant, we had ample time to visit and share stories while paddling.

When we arrived at the Point, we found a slightly shady spot on the beach for our picnic lunch. The afternoon wind gave us a little speed boost for our return paddle. I believe Jacqui “clocked” herself at 5.2 mph at one point!

All in all, a delightful day in the Bay! Thanks to all of you who participated and made it so enjoyable!
