Morning Paddle on Bass Lake

Jacqui, Paul & Irene, and I had a peaceful, easy morning paddle around Bass Lake, and we saw only one or two fishing boats. The lake was like a mirror and the temps were quite a bit warmer than originally predicted. We did a counter-clockwise (that's anti-clockwise to you, Jacqui! 🙂) loop. At the first island, we watched a pair of loons swimming with their chick. Both yellow and white water lilies were in bloom, so it was like paddling in a Monet painting! We passed the wee ones paddling their SOTs near Camp Carvela - very cute. At the south end of the lake there was a second pair of loons, but we didn't see any chicks with them. Near the southernmost island, an Osprey flew over us, and there were a few sassy Kingfishers along the shore. A couple raindrops came down just as we approached the boat launch, but they lasted only a few minutes, so the boat- and gear-loading was easy and paddlers stayed dry!
