Beitner Rapids To Cass Rd. Bridge - July 22, 2024

Despite a less than ideal river level, it was a beautiful day, and Brad, Howie, Jacqui, and I had a fun paddle from Beitner to Cass. The USGS gauge this morning read just 238 cfs, 4.88 ft., but surprisingly, it was not too scrapey, and none of us had to drag our boats across exposed gravel beds. A nice young man asked if he could follow us down in his Dagger Mamba, as it was his first time on this section (and he did just fine 🙂). After the usual pre-paddle huddle, we four + 1 worked our way down the river, eddy-hopping so folks could stay together, communicate in a quieter & calmer area, and get some good boat-control practice in. As per usual, the Lone Pine rapid was the trickier bit, but with the low water, it was not pushy, and everyone had a dry-hair day! Brad's Vagabond is certainly no ww canoe, so he shore-scouted just prior to his run, and dialed in his line perfectly!
At the Cass Road take-out, folks regrouped and I saw smiles all around, so I'll take that as confirmation of a fun and successful time on the river! If we get a bit of rain, I'm game to go again soon, and hope others will be as well!
