Six paddlers enjoyed a beautiful day on the Upper Manistee River from John's landing (dirt rd. access south of CR 38) to CR 612. We saw no other paddlers. We passed 4 fishermen and waved to a few landowners along the way. This stretch of river is very pretty and remote. There are a few difficult passages but nothing dangerous.
The river widens with the merging of another stream about an hour into the paddle. It got warm enough for one person, Lois, to go for a swim. The water was cold.
There are no other specific events on which to comment. That was the beauty of the trip. It was a leisurely float with a small group enjoying a quiet day in the near-wilderness.
Participants were Marv, Marlene, John H, Judy S, Lois G, and Bob F.
