On the last truly warm day of October, John and I took out our ABS tandem canoe and joined Angie Willis in her rec kayak for a trip down the Pine from Peterson to Low. We had a lovely trip; the only other living things on the river (besides Angie and John and me) were a couple of deer and 2 bald eagles. One watched us while we rounded a corner beneath its roost, and the other flew overhead a few minutes later. The water level was really high, which made the trip fairly challenging as we headed into each set of rapids. We had to drive through a few inches of water as we passed over Low Bridge (in the cars). Putting in at the Peterson Campground at site #13 is easy. We finished in only 2 hours, including a snack break. And there was almost no trash to be found along the way! A great way to end the 2009 TAPC season! Written by Lois Goldstein
