All day fun in the sun for 4 in canoes!
First, Bob signed up to join me, then my vous crew friend from Grand Haven, Laura Mitchell, and my ex-racing partner, Roseanne Bowman, who had just moved her Mom to a care facility in TC from Wisconsin.
So, it was with delight that Mother Nature blessed us with 72-degree sunshine for our day on the Pine, and we had the river almost all to ourselves (4 guys in tandem canoes, 2 vous crew playboaters & 2 fishermen), and lots of wildlife, mergansers, Canadian Geese with their gosling family, a black turtle, many cliff swallows, and finally, a Baltimore Oriole preening for a date at the Low Bridge access. We were in no hurry to end this gorgeous day with friends, so soaked up the rays during our picnic lunch on a sand beach downstream from Peterson, and then stopped for a snack on another sandbar, before surfing the "Pinball" rapid.
Roseanne & I haven't paddled tandem except once since our C-2 days, and she's still got the strokes, never needed any coaching, as we slalomed between logs & rocks, over riffles & between gravel bars. Laura practiced some freestyle strokes in her Flashfire, and Bob rode the waves in his Sandpiper, so canoes reigned the day!
