Where did you go?
Boardman River from Shumsky to Lone Pine
How was it?
We began the outing with lunch at Rico's. Yum! Lots of fun on the river, with multiple swim breaks on a 90 degree day. One person got caught in a bit of foliage and flipped over. Several people practiced leaning into a rock, and one managed to catch every eddy he could, including the ones in Beitner Rapids.
What kind of boats were there?
7 plastic kayaks, 2 solo canoes
Anything noteworthy?
Taking out at Lone Pine was fabulous! It gave us a longer run in the newly formed rapids and the gravel beach was a pleasure to land on. Also, since several folks had boat carts, taking the gear up the paved trail was SO much better than the other takeouts at Oleson Bridge or at Boardman (Cass Street) Dam. Special thanks to all the participants who portaged canoes, schlepped gear, brought drivers back to the cars and helped with boat retrieval.
It was amazing that a group of 9 paddlers showed up for a trip that had been posted about 18 hours beforehand.
