Jacqui, Howie, Trish, Irene, and I met at Cedar Lake for an afternoon of strokes and rescue practice. It was an opportunity to practice skills and whatever folks wanted to do, keeping things flexible so we could all help or watch each other as needed. The afternoon was pleasant and the water was warm, which was much appreciated by those of us wanting to practice rescues! We started with some forward/reverse strokes, beginning high & low braces, and finally draws - always a bit of a challenge in the wind!
We had a little contest to see how few forward/reverse sweep strokes we needed to take to make our kayaks turn 360 degrees. Jacqui had her Pyranha Fusion, so she easily won against our long boats. I think she may still be spinning...
Several of us wanted to practice self- and assisted- rescues. We worked on bow rescues, T Rescues, and Jacqui and Howie tried a new one: a T Rescue followed by a heel hook re-entry. It worked! I was able to pull off a couple Eskimo rolls, so we covered a lot of rescue territory!
All in all, it was a fun afternoon, and we are ready for some open water!
