Trip Reports

July 25 Jordan morning cleanup

Published on 7/25/2010
Who came?  Lois Goldstein, John Heiam, Jocelyn Trepte, Steve Somers, Karen Mueller, Tracie Lord and Dawn Freels - on her first club outing!

Where?  Just from Webster to Rogers, from 9 to 12:30

Boats?  L&J in their tandem canoe (the garbage barge), Jocelyn in her solo canoe (she is AMAZING in that little boat, frog spear and all), everyone else in solo kayaks

Interesting stuff?  Steve got out of his boat to tackle some unco-operative beer cans.  Dawn literally threw herself into the activity, but never lost sight of her mission, or her trash.  She looked like a real pro.  L&J began talking to the cans they were spearing on the river bottom.  Tracy served as chief spotter, since this was her first Jordan experience.

Tracie also deserves the special "fashionista award" since she forgot her river shoes, so she used the universal fix-it material, duct tape to make sure that her flipflops did not get lost on the river.  Not many women would have the foresight to carry along duct tape that is dyed to match her light green boat!

Karen barely had room for all her stuff in the cockpit of her boat.  Steve got the come-along that John pointed out to him as a "red handle"; it weighed about 20 pounds.  He also got a big piece of pipe.  Mostly we pulled a million cans off the bottom of the river.  The weather was great!  The trash will be picked up by the kind folks from Jordan Valley Outfitters.  They were eternally grateful.

How about lunch?  We all snarfed down lunch at Murray's Bar and Grill in East Jordan.

A job well done; we felt tired but good!
