Trip Reports

September 9 Jordan River

Published on 9/9/2011
The tourists were gone and the day was beautiful. Cool morning air soon warmed in the sun.  No one had a reason to go swimming in the swift, cool, clear waters of the Jordan.  At 50 degrees it's one of the colder rivers.

Several paddlers did get a bit of water dumped in their laps when coming out of "The Tubes".  The river left tube has a little drop and the right tube has standing waves -- which is the easier route?  Fred ("a standing wave is a terrible thing to waste") went through the right tube backwards so as to be placed optimally to surf the standing wave at the end.

Grave's Crossing to Rogers took about 3 hours with a snack break just below Webster Road (see picture).   Lois was proud that Karen could eat food that accidentally dropped into Lois' solo canoe.  It's unclear whether Lois kept her canoe immaculate or Karen has a relaxed attitude about food.   Marv also was reported to have a very clean kayak.  Was the clean river the inspiration for this cleanliness obsession?

Despite the focusing problems with his fancy new camera, John seemed to do a good job of enjoying the paddle too.

Bob and Sue, experienced canoeists visiting from central Florida joined us.   For those who whine about hoisting a little kayak on their car, take a look at the 75 pound canoe they carry on their RV.   Hmmm.

They're leading the paddle gypsy life, traveling around the country, contacting paddle clubs wherever they go.  When they found the TAPC, they became members immediately.  It was a pleasure to have them join us.
