Despite a great forecast, we only had seven people sign up for today’s trip. Lois and I met Tracie and Linda at the Baxter Bridge access at 9:30 AM. We transferred their boats to our trailer, and drove to the 131 access to meet Jocelyn, John Bull and his son Greg who was visiting from San Diego. Days like today don’t happen often. The temperatures were in the mid-seventies, there were no bugs, light winds, and peak fall colors.
The traffic in town was very heavy, and there were more cars parked at the access than on a summer holiday weekend, yet we saw very few people on the river. I guess most people were just out walking in the forest. Our favorite lunch spot was taken by another party, so we moved down river to a new spot on river left. We enjoyed lunch in mottled sun light and watched the river roll by.
Days like today are why we moved to Traverse City!
