Manistee River
Published on 4/1/2012
Five TAPC members enjoyed a fine afternoon on the fast-moving Manistee. The water level was up so some of the rocks and riffles were buried. We saw mergansers, nesting Canada geese, and what was probably a muskrat. Another critter we saw was identified as a marten by Tracie. The kingfishers were plentiful as well. We launched at Woodpecker Creek off Upper River Rd. This is just downstream from Hodenpyl Dam and is a much easier access than at the dam. However, when the water is low it can be difficult getting from water's edge out into the main stream. (submitted by Bob)
