About this event
This mini "clinic" is intended for kayakers who would like to do more challenging paddles on bigger water, and/or who want to learn and practice deep-water rescue maneuvers in a safe and controlled environment. It will be a fairly strenuous afternoon, and not suitable for those with limited mobility, joint issues, or a fear of being upside down in a kayak!
We will be in the water much of the time, so dress for immersion, and bring any additional paddlewear you might need if you tend to get cold. Please wear water shoes/sandals (no bare feet).
What we'll do:
1. In-boat gentle stretches, followed by a quick paddling loop to get the "kinks" out
2. Wet Exit
3. Bow Rescue
4. Paddle Float Self Rescue
5. Assisted T-Rescue
6. Others/suggestions?
Required:
Sea kayak, or light touring kayak with at least one sealed bulkhead/hatch - *no rec boats with large cockpits*

Properly fitting PFD (no inflatables)
Sprayskirt that secures to the entire cockpit coaming (no 1/2 or 3/4 skirts)
Nose clips
Paddle float
Bilge pump
*No paddle leashes and no bow and stern lines*
A Michigan Recreation Passport is required at the DNR launch site.
