One tandem canoe, two solo canoes and six kayaks,
We met at Paddle Brave in Roscommon, shuttled the cars to Smith bridge and started paddling around 11 AM. The weather was cold and after about an hour we were treated to a light drizzle, which was with us on and off until we stopped for lunch at Durant Castle. The drizzle obediently stopped for our lunch, but began again a little while after we resumed paddling. About an hour from the end, the sun made a brief appearance, which was enjoyed by all.
This paddle through the Mason Tract is one of my favorites. Even cold and drizzly, I enjoyed the beauty and chatting with friends, We encountered some fishermen, who seemed all to be “just starting”.
Thanks to Harold and Pam who guided many of us through a few tricky spots, throw rope at the ready.
