After Monday night's downpour, the Sturgeon gage was up more than 1.5 ft & the cfs had risen from 200 to 600. So, along with a forecast for possible stormy afternoon weather, we decided it wasn't worth the long drive & opted for the Upper Platte. Gail had changed her work schedule to paddle today, and the Sturgeon outfitter called to advise against coming, just before I was getting ready to call him at 9AM.
Of course, the Upper Platte was high too, so was a fast paddle, only an hour to Honor. After the storm cleared to the west, we took our time from Indian Hill to enjoy the display of wildflowers along the river, showy orchids, swamp milkweed, bittersweet nightshade, blue flag iris & yellow water lilies, and pick up some trash too, since the clean-up on Thursday will stop in Honor. By the time we reached Platte Lake, it was calm enough to paddle in our canoes.
