Lower
Platte River Clean-up
It was beautiful morning when we met up with Lois and John.
We made our way to the river, managed to get wet, met a ranger name Matt, and
then started our clean-up. Here is a photo of the whole group.
This is the gang from Peaceful Valley including the authors. (From left to right, John, Paige, Theresa, Megan, Lois, and Gracie)
Megan started in the kayak, Gracie and Paige
in the canoes with Lois and John. At the beginning of the trip there was
hardly any garbage. When we reached Loon Lake, we picked up a “No Trespassing”
sign, a few shoes, a disposable razor, and lots of bottles and cans. Lois was
very excited when we found a can that had a special top to it. It was so old
that it did not have today’s pop can top.
Lunch was very busy; there was a martial arts group that shared the Fish Weir
Landing with us. Still, the food was delicious and it was nice to have a break.
Gracie and Megan switched spots; Gracie was now alone in the kayak. Megan
and Lois started off, Paige and John were already ahead.
The highlights of the second half of the trip included, finding an all-star
sneaker, a full fishing line, and Styrofoam cooler. A man named Scott
helped Megan and Lois with many difficult objects that were out of their reach.
When we reached the end, the kids decided to take a dip in the river.
Overall it was an amazing trip that included many fond memories. Thank you Lois
and John!
Here is the trash we collected.
