Trip Reports

July 9 - Boardman River Forks-Brown Bridge Landing

Published on 7/9/2013
The Tue tradition started by Mike C. was off and running again this week despite some threatening clouds. We slipped on the river between rental groups and enjoyed a leisurely trip down our favorite little stream. Lots of bird sightings and songs along the way. A couple provided some measure of entertainment for Marlene & Tracie as some discussion of how long this "couple" might continue to date after 2 capsizes by the male and lots of laughter from his female companion. After the previous night's heavy rain the river was high and fast causing additional debris in the river.
Marv was halted by a blockage not quite all the way across so he was able to squeeze between the bank and over a couple of saplings. Dan W., Tracie & Marlene were astonished by Mike C.'s feat of strength as he pulled back a large floating log opening a giant gap for us to paddle through. Unfortunately the log floated back closing the gap before Mike could jump back into his kayak, leaving him to take Marv's route near the bank. The rest of the way was clear and the group enjoyed the extra spicy riffles today along the new section of the river. At the landing we could float right up to the dock and someone was nice enough to put a large rock to use as a step up to the platform. Tracie especially appreciated this kindness!
