Trip Reports

August 1 Jordan River

Published on 8/1/2013
Trip was posted with 36 hours notice: got 7 takers: Lois & John, Tracie, Harold, Glenn B, and Susan & Gerald.  High water after lots of local rain the previous day.  The gauge went up from 2.9' to 4.5', from 175 to 420 CFS, with the peak just at the time we were on the river.  At both Webster and Rogers, the steps were under water - made landing really easy.  But the trees seemed lower than normal, until we realized that it wasn't the trees, it was the river.  Tricky maneuvering; glad we didn't have any novices.

Bright sunshine!  One unauthorized swim at the tubes, and a major portage around a newly downed large tree, in MUCK.  We reported it to Don at Swiss Hideaway, and he had a crew out there to clear it within a couple of hours.  No rental boats could have made it.  Special thanks to Harold and Glenn for their assistance in negotiating the carry-over and log-jumping.  Note to self: it's important to have shoes that will stay on your feet.  My new Chacos with the toe loop worked.

Lunch later at Murray's - well deserved.  A great day on the river; I enjoyed the challenge.
