A "happening" involves "an interaction between the audience and the artwork which makes the audience, in a sense, part of the art."
Several TAPC members gave this event a chance and as a result had a unique experience. Well organized ahead and with volunteer Becky Beach picking up our registrations the night before, Steve and I easily parked, launched, and then enjoyed paddling the Suttons Bay waterfront on what turned out to be a perfect day. Color was 360 degree everywhere with an amazingly disparate collection of canoes and kayaks and paddlers arriving, launching, and out on the water -- lots of photo ops. Steve even stepped in to handle a rescue when a guy inexplicably dumped just after he entered the corral and no one else nearby had a clue what to do.
Participating in the Flotilla was really fun, a great opportunity to support the Suttons Bay schools, and we would do it again.
