Trip leader Lois proved to be a great weather prognosticator when she rescheduled the paddle from a rainy, cold Saturday to a cloudless Wednesday. John, Lois, Tracie, Linda, Dan and new member Rick met at Baxter Bridge promptly at 8:45 and we were on the river an hour later. The 3 ½ inches of rain from the previous weekend had the river flowing fast.
We knew it was going to be a good trip when a bald eagle flew over 15 minutes into the trip. (Tracie is pointing at it)
The fall colors were beautiful, especially the way the reds and golds reflected off the river. Be sure to look at the photos that John took. After lunch the temps had increased to the 70s. Everyone started the trip bundled up in layers of fleece. By the end we were down to tee shirts. The trip measured 20.3 miles and took 4 ½ hours. Thanks to the above average current and a group that kept on paddling, I understand this is a record time for this trip.
