Tracie & I met up for my annual outing on the morning of the NMC BBQ. The sky was bright blue and there was a bit of a wind from the south, but we had a great time. The water in Boardman Lake is crystal clear now, and our kayaks and boots were immaculate at the end of the trip. Those of you who know me are aware that I am very fussy about having clean equipment.
It took us about 1:15 to arrive at South Airport Road - we paddled under the pedestrian bridge, but not under the highway. The return trip took 45 minutes, including a stop to chat with some other kayakers who were cleaning the river. We also met a couple of guys in a racing canoe; they were training for the AuSable River Marathon. They had launched at the mouth of the river, gone upstream to Sabin Dam and were on the return leg. Wildlife sightings included a couple of swan families and some ducks. No minks today; the lake level is still pretty high and the stumps are under water at the southeast corner of the lake. Sorry - no photos. We worked up a great appetite for the local spring festival at NMC. So nice to have quality time to spend with a good friend, doing something we both love! Lois
