Five of us paddled from Dobson to Low Bridge on the Pine River. Lois and I had our tandem, and Jocelyn, Jack, and Rick were each in solo canoes. We had a perfect day weather wise. The river was running at 440 CFS up from its summer normal of about 200 CFS. The trip from Dobson to Peterson only took an hour and 15 minutes! Mark had reported no blockages, but there were still a few tight spots. We loved the way he had cleared the river because it looked so natural. It was fascinating to see how the river had changed from last year.
We ate lunch at Peterson, and then paddled to Low in an hour and forty-five minutes, and we were not rushing. We thought this stretch was easier than Dobson to Peterson because the river was wider. I don’t think we have ever had more fun paddling the river. An eagle flew within a few feet of us and then perched in a tree so we could photograph him.
Note: The road to Low Bridge was flooded with about 6" of water, but we were able to drive through to the take out.
