Our group met for lunch at the Hungry Tummy in Beulah, and later launched our boats at Homestead Dam. The trip to Lewis Bridge was short, but lots of fun. We all agreed that it was good that this trip had been postponed from yesterday, when it was raining all day. Today it was cool and pleasant.
Rory and Mariah Walton were piloting the family canoe, and they quickly learned to handle back ferries and later mastered both draw and pry strokes. John Walton managed to handle a conference call while floating downstream. Marv took the lead for most of the afternoon, while Gerry, Sue, Jocelyn and Marlene did their own cleanup trip, hauling in 2 very large bags of assorted stuff. The river needs more help, so if you are available to help out on June 21, please register for the Betsie cleanup trip on that day. John Heiam was busy with photo shoots, and I just enjoyed the scenery, with the highlight being the bald eagle that soared over us several times. Ice cream afterwards! Special thanks to John W and Gerry & Sue for their help with the shuttle.
