July 10, 2014 - Huckleberry Heiam Dock Removal

July 10, 2014 - Boardman River - Brown Bridge to Shumsky
FINAL !!!! Post Flood Debris Removal

OR

THE HUCKLEBERRY HEIAM NEW BOAT TRIAL

Last year we removed 50 pieces of debris from Brownbridge to Beitner in 11 days.
Some of it was huge.  Massive is another word that comes to mine.

But, getting just 15 pieces out of this BBL to SL section this year has
taken 12 or more days and we still have the Shumsky to Beitner left to do.

It's been frustrating but we have devised new ways to get it done.

Today, John Heiam and 4 others of us teamed up to get the last 2 pieces out.

John was the test pilot for our new floatation contraption.

It paddles like a barge but it does the job and we got'er done!

Then we enjoyed the gorgeous day with a float down to Beitner to find and mark the
pieces in that section.  Some were still there from an earlier recon trip
and some had moved to new locations.

Look at the photos of this project to get a good laugh and some info
for the next phase of this project.

Oh, and Paul and Glen repositioned a log that was clogging up
one of my favorite eddy turn/peal-out playing spots.

I want to thank Bob Summers and his wife Evie for letting us start at his house.
That saved us an hour or more of paddling.

A HUGE THANK YOU!!! goes out the Nick and Neal from the GTCD.
They have been really cooperative in helping me get these
pieces from places that none of us had ever been.  I could have never
moved these heavy pieces alone.  One of them, they dragged 1/4 mile
down a railroad track with ropes like a mule team.

List of debris pieces still in the SL to BL section.
