Trip Reports

August 5 Boardman: BBL to Beitner

Published on 8/5/2014
Nine people - Marv & Marlene, Fred & Judy, Tracie, Carol S, Kathy S, Jackie and Lois.  Four Subaru vehicles.  One solo canoe and eight kayaks.  Zero unplanned swim breaks.  Two other paddlers encountered on the river.

One disappointing sign at the put-in: the parking lot will be closed for two days since a group of boy scouts will be camping there this weekend.  We're not sure, but we think they were given permission by someone in the TC government.  Don't know if the Brown Bridge Advisory Committee knows about it.  Why they aren't camping at the Forks or Scheck's is anybody's guess.  And who knows if they will pay for the toilet we provide there, plus the trash container.  NOT a good precedent!!!

Our trip was mostly uneventful, except that Tracie got a magic copper pot, which she used to make a wish - we don't know what it was, but we sure hope it comes true!  Judy zoomed ahead, singing as always.  Lois and Fred managed to corral a busted float tube, which Lois gleefully stabbed to empty out the water.  Then she tastefully arranged it on the highway railing to be picked up later by the TAPC webmaster John, who showed up at our takeout to help with the shuttle and loading boats.  Great lunchtime fun at Red Lobster later!

Four of the five cars on the trip were Subarus.
