July 10, 2015 - 8th Annual National Cherry Festival - BRCS
We lucked up today and had a great day to do this project.
The USCG, TAPC, Goodwill Street Outreach and just plain folks showed up to work.
We found the usual stuff but mostly soaked bedding.
Here are the some photos from today's project.
Everyone.
River Crew:
US Coast Guard Crew
Walking Crew
The USCG kids have such a good time.
Not a bad haul for these professionals.
Matt found the first nasty bedding - a pillow
Paul is not afraid to get his feet wet.
More bedding.
Our F.C.O.D. (First Can Of The Day)
Becky and Jocelyn struggle at the weir with a chair and sleeping bag.
Norm struggles with the sleeping bag Jocelyn pulled up.
Some say the downtown section has no beauty - wrong!
The walkers got a lot of this and there were two piles of trash left upstream.
8 bags at Union Street bridge which we got after the picture was taken.
A lot of wet bedding was left at the Kid's Creek confluence.
This is all of it minus the bedding which was placed in a private dumpster.
Here are some little pieces of trash that should not have been allowed
to get into the river in the first place.
We saw many of these on the bottom of the river.
Our efforts in the downtown section is making a difference but we can not stop
working on this section or it will quickly become filthy like it was before
we started doing this section in 2007.
I want to thank the Great Lake Commission and the National Cherry Festival for their
continuing support for this project.
I want to thank the Traverse City Parks Dept. for their help with
providing free trash disposal for this project.
I also want to thank the Traverse City Parking Dept. for their help
with providing free parking for all our downtown projects.
