It was raining while we unloaded our boats and gear, but stopped by the time we were ready to launch. One person took an unplanned swim break about 30 minutes into the trip, and the hero of the day was Terry, who performed masterfully as the rescue crew. Unfortunately, gear had not been stashed in the capsized kayak, and the car keys were never found. Lessons learned: secure your valuables, wear your life jacket, take a dry bag with a complete change of clothing, and lean downstream when you hit a rock sideways.
The Upper Pine was gorgeous as ever. At lunchtime we celebrated Jocelyn's 75th with birthday cupcakes and a candle. After lunch I saw four deer, two of which just watched me leisurely drifting downstream. This is one of my favorite rivers ever!
