2nd Annual S Br AuSable River Cleanup W/ The Anglers of the AuSable

We were met with this sunrise scene when we headed to Graying this morning.

We knew it was going to be a glorious day and it was.

To cut the trip in half and make it to the after-party at Gate's Lodge, we putin
at the DNR Castle property and the DNR graciously opened the gate for us so we
didn't have to carry our boats so far down the road.

THANK YOU JAKE FIGLEY, Susan Thiel and the fire crew in the Roscommon area.

There were 5 humans: Paul, Glenn, John W., Marvin I. and Norm

Paul

Glenn

Marvin

John W. and Winston (The Wonder Dog)

Winston is intent on what John is doing.

Norm

Lots of families were on the river wading for the cause.

We found one bag 3/4 full and some spiky lumber.  Much less that we expected.

Then to the Gate's Lodge for lunch and a beer.

We dumped the trash at the Gate's Lodge and then we ate some brats.

The Anglers do a great job and clean all three branches in one day.

This is what their many volunteers took out of the three rivers today.

We want to thank the Anglers for lunch and for doing the planning for this
extensive project.  We are proud to be a part of it.

Together we are making a huge difference in the health and cleanliness of the
three branches of the AuSable River.

Also, the BRCS wants to thank

Paddle Brave Canoe Livery of Roscommon
(989) 275-5273

for the complimentary shuttle service they ALWAYS provide for us
when we do these service projects.

Note:

There are two long pieces of lumber in the river at these two locations

44.57596
-84.48055

44.58336
-84.48128

Whereas lumber itself is not a problem for us, these pieces have some
big nasty spikes and nails in them that are a hazard to fishermen
paddlers and wildlife and we want them removed.

We didn't have our saw with us today but next time if they are still there,
we will cut them up and remove them.
