Trip Reports

September 26 South Branch of the AuSable

Published on 9/26/2015
Who: Betty & Mike Gardiner, Marlene Puska, Linda Woodruff, John & me (Lois)

Where: South Branch of the AuSable - we began at the public access at Steckert Bridge, since the landing is easier to negotiate for kayaks.

How: Marv offered to shuttle us, but we chose to keep him as a companion while Paddle Brave moved our drivers; great to have time to catch up with our chief shuttle guy and hear about recent Mackinac Island adventures of M&M, plus U.P. travels of M&B

Lunch: pizza delivery by helicopter from Riverside Pizza in Iron River

Conversation: easy to have long chats, since the current moves, but there were few obstacles, and the river is wide enough to be side by side

Colors: not quite peak, but gorgeous in spots.  Brilliant blue skies.

Afterwards: Wimpy's for ice cream!

Report by Lois, Photos by John

I am learning the keys to getting fall colors reflected in the water. Take the photo when the trees are in the sun and the water is in the shade. This usually occurs when the sun is low - e.g. morning or evening.
