Autumn has arrived! We couldn't believe that 5 days ago we were paddling in tee shirts and shorts, and today we had on four layers of tops, plus gloves, warm hats and boots. At least those of us who thought ahead had those garments on, and those who didn't were SO jealous of those that did! My own hubby was coveting my hot tea at lunch, while he had his drink filled with ice. BRRR.
We did have a tailwind all the way down the river, so that made the trip go faster. We averted the one near-upset, controlled the canines in the group, found the guy who decided to explore around the far side of an island, and saw no other folks on the river all day. A few wildlife sightings: deer, turkeys, ducks, and evidence of cows. Clouds at first, then finally sunshine. Fall colors are still not near peak, but it was very pretty.
Special thanks to those folks who helped with the shuttle plans: John Walton, Rich Nurmi & Linnaea Melcarek, Jackie Anderson and Marvin Ison. Also along were Tracie Lord (her first paddling outing since surgery), Mike Terrell and trip hosts John Heiam & Lois Goldstein, who is writing this report. John H, as usual, took the pictures, so he never gets to be in them!
