Editor's note: As a gift to CHS graduates, we offer a river trip for two. Celeste went on the Boardman last year, right after she graduated from the U of Vermont with a degree in environmental science. She just got home from a one-year stint teaching English in Micronesia. Her boyfriend Henry lives in Bozeman, and was visiting TC this week.
On Monday, June 6, myself (Celeste Buck-Heinz), Henry Roningen, Lois Goldstein, John Heiam, Tracie Lord, Barbara Winckler, and Greg Camplin paddled the Jordan River near Mancelona. It was a beautiful afternoon in the high 60s/low 70s. We had a wonderful experience! Lois and John taught us back ferrying and we practiced identifying and pulling into eddies. The river was quick, so it kept us on our toes and it was very enjoyable to paddle.
Because the afternoon was an official event with the Traverse Area Paddle Club, the cost of our shuttle was covered and it made the drop off and pick up process quick and easy! We really appreciated how convenient it was because of the benefits from the Paddle Club. It was a fantastic afternoon and we can't wait to paddle again!
