The Upper Pine was truly exquisite, as stated by Lois. The temperature was perfect, in the high 70s, and the partly sunny skies made the day just right for a comfortable paddle. As seen in John's very professional looking photos, we enjoyed a host of beautiful wildflowers along our path.
It was my first paddle with the Traverse Area Paddle Club, and may I say that I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with this kind and congenial group of new found friends. I had mentioned that I would like to develop some maneuvering skills and would appreciate any tips along the way. Thanks to the generosity of so many members, I learned new techniques that would prevent me from running into banks, reading the eddies for a smooth transition around curves, and should I get hung up on a downed tree, how to stay afloat. I am looking forward to the next trip so I can continue honing these skills. I do though have to admit, that I did see a couple of turtles along the way. Oh, and I was able to bring in a couple of beer cans from the side of the river. Nothing says belonging like contributing a couple of beer cans to the trash bag.
Thank you Marv and Marlene for allowing me to carpool with you; and my appreciation to the entire group for being so welcoming.
Trip report by Linda Farmer; photos by John H
Participants were Lois & John, Sue & Gerald, Leigh, Marlene, Tracie, Marvin, Linda F
In the first two photos, Sue is giving Linda a quick lesson in how to get in and out of eddies, and how to do a ferry.
While the shuttle was being run, I looked around for flowers and other living plants.
Does any one know what this is?
