It was ladies' day on the river! Six gals in six kayaks, Jackie, Terry, Marlene, a pair of Lindas (F&P) & Tracie. Everyone met up at Chase Bridge, dropped boats & gear, then drivers headed out for the shuttle to Smith Bridge, our take out point. The main man, guy of the day, & all round good dude Marv, brought all the beauties back to the put-in with his usual grace & aplomb. The all girl flotilla had a wonderful time ka----yaking down the river. The wideness of the S. Br. allowed side by side paddling while discussing all sorts of important topics. In no time the little group arrived at Durrant's Castle for a pleasant repast of home made lunches. The obligatory rest stop at the Chapel was made for the newbies. The armada slid into the landing at Smith Bridge 10 minutes ahead of the predicted time.
Discovered along the way:
Low water = gravel bars + rocks
Cardinal flowers are at the height of bloom.
Fly fisherman are friendly when one greets them with a smile & asks which side to pass by.
Blue Herons will continue to bound downstream for a long time before flying off.
Mink are fast to disappear when spotted.
All had a fantastic time, no buts about it!
