6 River Sweep Divided By Two - August 20, 2016
Started by Ethan Winchester of Boyne Mountain Sports in 2012, The 6 River
Sweep was a great event for a few years but when he dropped out it
sort of fell apart but I am trying to keep it going with mixed results.
The Friends of the Boyne worked with Adam Kennedy to do a small cleanup there.
The BRCS helped the newly formed Sturgeon River Sweepers on the Sturgeon.
The Headwaters TU Chapter worked on the Pigeon.
Absent were the Jordan, Maple and Bear River crews.
STURGEON RIVER REPORT
The Sturgeon was full of water and people at Wolverine when we arrived.
Many tourists were making ready to get on the river with little kids, infants and pets.
Wendy warned them that the Sturgeon on a good day is not a place for kids, infants
and pets but especially today with the high fast water. They said they would be FINE".
They were not. Several of their group had very close calls on the river. But that
is a whole story of its own.
We found the Sturgeon dark from high water. Finding trash was not easy and
when we found it, it was not easy to get. We did two sections before it rained.
Here are some photos from the project:
Mark and Brandon in their new SRS canoe donated to them by the BRCS.
Brandon and Paul walking a difficult log jam.
Wendy going under the bridge at Scott Rd.
Dock found just downstream from the Thirsty Sturgeon Bar - River Left.
All our trash fit (very tightly) in one bag.
Trash found by Trowbridge Rd Crew.
Then we ate some delicious food provided by Brian O'Conner.
THANK YOU!!! Wendy and Mark for all the planning and preparation for this event.
