June 18 Betsie - Homestead Dam to Smith Bridge

I really enjoyed this trip.  We could name it "Girls Day Out @ the Spa".  Not quite.  Half a mile downstream one of the paddlers became hung up on a log jam.  She felt that she could paddle very fast and go over the log.  Instead she ran into another tree and became stuck sideways. She was stuck for at least fifteen minutes and decided she didn't want Lois to have to jump into that cold fast current to try and free her. The current would be too fast anyway.

Some of the other co-paddlers thought she screamed because she was scared of being caught. But she just didn't like the snake dangling down.  It was brown with an orange diamond-like pattern on it.  We became very close and personal.  Will look up Michigan snakes to check what kind it is.  The rest of the group portaged and received a free trip to the Betsie Forest Spa with a BOGO foot and body scrub.  All in good fun.  Thank you all for coming and nice to meet Vicki M.

P.S. Lesson learned: do not proceed down the river unless you can see what is ahead of you.
