May 17 Pine River - Elm Flats to Peterson

Published on 5/17/2017
It went up to 85 today, and earlier this week we had frost warnings!  That's springtime in northern Michigan.  On last week's trip I wore long johns, today it was shorts and  a tee shirt!  Poor Max (the dog) tried to stay out of the sunshine, and even dipped his paws into the water, which is still pretty cold.  But we mostly wore sandals and sun hats.  Besides Jocelyn (Max's "Mom", John & me (Lois), others included Susan & Gerald, Bob and Marlene.

We noticed only a small amount of trash, which we'll grab during a Pine River cleanup in July.  Also, special thanks goes to Mark and Alaney and all the folks at Pine River Paddlesports Center, who gave us a free shuttle.  All the participants are long-time river cleanup folks, and PRPC wants to thank us for our service.  As for other paddlers, I think we saw 4 other people all day.  The trees were at the "forty shades of green" stage - just lovely.  Not much wind, gorgeous scenery, great group with all experienced folks so we could easily trade off in the lead and sweep positions.
