Trip Reports

May 23 - Pine, Dobson to Low Bridge

Published on 5/23/2017
My first Pine paddle this season, thanks to Mark & Jake from Pine River Paddlesports, who cleared the river, and Jocelyn Trepte, who never hesitated to join me, in spite of a rainy forecast! I didn't call Mark for a shuttle since the weather was iffy, so was surprised when he & Jake showed up at Dobson Bridge, our put-in, to paddle with the Manistee USFS crew. Jocelyn, Max, Linda Pelkey & I enjoyed riding the riffles, marveling at the wildflowers (including trillium, marsh marigold, winter cress, wild geranium & bellwort), mergansers & blue heron. As we were finishing our lunch at Peterson Bridge, Wild Bill Gallagher & his crew of playboaters showed up for a paddle to Low Bridge, too. The water level was perfect today, 273 cfs at 4.2 ft.
Just a reminder, USDA watercraft permits are required on the Pine River from Elm Flats to Low Bridge 5/27-9/5. Photos by Sara Cockrell & Jocelyn Trepte
