June 2 East Bay from Yuba to Petobego

It was just Kurt, John & Lois, meeting at a wonderful new boat access at Sayler Park, a few miles up the road from the GT Resort.  The bay was totally calm as we paddled north along the shoreline.  It took about an hour to get to the Maple Bay property of the GT Regional Land Conservancy, and then we explored Petobego Pond.  For those who are unfamiliar with the area, it's pronounced "toe-bee-go".  Sort of like Peshawbestown, you just don't mention some of the letters, but they're in there anyway.

We had red, white and blue boats, unplanned but kind of appropriate for the week of Memorial Day.  We saw a few people walking along the beach, some playing with dogs.  The most amazing sight was a house with a "For Sale" sign on the shoreline.  It looks pretty big and fancy, and I checked out the listing later.  The asking price is $2.25 million and there are 5 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms.  It has a 4 car garage, so there would be plenty of room to store a fleet of kayaks and canoes.  Wait, there's a boat house too, so maybe the garage could be saved for other outdoor toys.  In any case, it's just waiting for the right buyer, which is not me!

After we explored the pond, John & Kurt switched boats for a while and we meandered back to the boat ramp, which has a nice adjacent beach area to launch kayaks. We looked for a shipwreck where John & I had snorkeled a few years ago, but we couldn't find it.  Later we adjourned to Bob Evans for a lovely lunch.
