Trip Reports

June 15 Haserot Park to the Tip of Old Mission

Published on 6/15/2017
When Lois and John invited me to paddle to Old Mission Point, I couldn't resist.  I love shipwrecks. Shipwrecks are mysterious, interesting and contain stories.  Four paddlers met on a cloudy but warm day at Haserot Beach to set out on a quest to find the Metropolis.  This ship became lost in a snowstorm in November 1886.  It was carrying pig iron and lumber.

We were unable to find the ship in the turquoise water, so we moseyed along to the Old Mission lighthouse to eat lunch.  Many cyclists from the Lansing area were at the lighthouse too.  One woman showed us the green radar on her phone.  It rained for only five minutes and after a half hour, it became hot and humid.

Lois & John entertained me with a story of how the TAPC was formed.  Lois and I looked patriotic with Lois' blue and white Tampico and Linda's red Tsunami.  Danny rushed ahead on the way back, as he had an appointment to get to.  I treated John and Lois to ice cream at the Old Mission General Store.  They deserve it!  Can't wait to try again to find the Metropolis.
