There were times when the clouds looked ominous, and some of us even put on rain jackets "just in case". But the clouds passed us by, and we were left with a very pleasant paddling afternoon. The temp was just cool enough that it wouldn't have been a good idea to take swim breaks, which also meant that it wasn't too hot either. And of course, the river is just gorgeous. We had a glimpse of wildlife here and there: a great blue heron almost posing for us, turtles lined up on a branch, a few ducks. And here it is late August and we even saw a couple of trees starting to turn. There were seven of us, starting on the river at Hodenpyl Dam around 11am. It was an uneventful float - no one dumped or even ran into problems. These are the outings that get forgotten because nothing "happened". They are really the ones we should remember because they were just perfect! Photos by John H.
