This year on the Pine River participants in our survey included two paddle club members, John Gerty and Terry MacKay, along with a Trout Unlimited member, Gary Marek, all who avidly waded through the three sites to collect as many habitats as they could reach. At the end of collection, John Gerty put in the time to help sort the samples for identification and calculation of stream quality. There are two notable results:
Silver Creek
The September sampling resulted in an Excellent stream quality score, primarily because of the diversity of the macroinvertebrates found there. Silver Creek consistently scores in the high range of Good stream quality otherwise.
Peterson
In 2017 the stream quality at this site declined from Good to Fair due to loss of numbers and diversity. A troubling development for this site.
