Trip Reports

May 25 Upper Platte

Published on 5/25/2018
Just three of us: Linda Woodruff, John and me.  Linda had never paddled the river before, so it was neat to show her the ins and outs and ups and downs of this lovely stream.  It is not a good place to take novice kayakers or canoeists, since we had a ton of twists and turns, especially in the first hour or so.  We had time to review the art of ferrying and eddy turns, and were amazed at the abundance of marsh marigolds.  Usually they are gone by this late in May, but everything seems a bit late this year (like the snow that was on the ground 5 weeks ago).  We also saw plenty of wildlife, and no other paddlers.  Where were people on this gorgeous 80 degree day?
