Trip Reports

May 27 Upper Pine River

Published on 5/27/2018
Today we had the river to ourselves.  Mark Miltner from Pine River Paddlesports Center suggested that we skip the usual first half-hour of our trip, since the downed trees had not yet been cleared, so we began our journey at the Meadowbrook Access.  Everyone was early and all went smoothly.  The group consisted of Sue & Gerry, Kurt, Cyndi & Terry, Tracie and Lois.  Jocelyn and John both had to cancel the day before, so we didn't have our usual photography team along - hence we have no pictures.

Because of the potentially dicey conditions (not a problem for our crew, but it would be tough for novices), we were the only paddlers on the river - quite a feat for a holiday weekend with temperatures in the low 90s.

There were a few forgotten items - a cell phone, a PFD (my hubby roared with laughter when we told him), and a temporarily misplaced splash deck - which magically appeared underneath a kayak.  I think we were distracted by the giant dog (a St. Bernard / mastiff) that we met at our lunch landing at Skookum.  Special thanks go to Gerald & Susan and Kurt for shuttle.  Thanks to PRPC for private landing area!
