12th Annual National Cherry Festival
Boardman River Downtown River Cleanup Report
Friday, July 6, 2018
It was cool and windy when 16 of us arrived at Hannah Park to do this fun project.
We had some USCG kids and their family members there as well.
The river was very full, high and slow which made for a leisurely float.
We found less trash than last year but enough to make it worth our while.
We didn't find any large debris but we did take some cardboard out of the weeds.
Along the carnival space, there was remarkably little trash where we had
found much more in previous years.
Our gratitude goes out to the following folks:
The National Cherry Festival for funding this and other downtown projects.
The Holiday Inn for allowing us to park in their lot.
Paddle For Pints who provided a free shuttle.
The City of Traverse City for trash disposal.
Kentucky Fried Chicken for a great picnic lunch (at a discount).
The Great Lakes Commission for funding the BRCS for many years.
All the 16 volunteers who came out to enjoy this project with us.
We are finally making a difference on this difficult section of river.
