August 17 Boardman - Brown Bridge Landing to Beitner

Published on 8/17/2018
Trip report and photos by Gracie Failor, about to enter her second year of college at GVSU

On Friday, Tracie, Jackie, Lois and I headed out to the Boardman for a short paddle. Since we had to switch the date from Thursday to Friday due to rain, not as many people were able to attend. However, we still had a great time with the four of us. We started around 10 am. I stayed behind with the boats while everyone ran the shuttle. We paddled for a while and only encountered a few fly fishermen, no other kayakers! Although it wasn’t a clean up, we did come across a few pieces of trash, including a kayak paddle which Tracie brought home. We also saw a whole slew of wildlife, including ducks, herons and most excitingly a deer prancing in the water. We stopped at Shumsky for a quick snack and rest before taking out at Beitner. Then, Lois and I said goodbye to Jackie and Tracie and headed to Olive Garden to meet John and feed our growling stomachs. It was another great day on the river!
