September 8th, 2018 South Branch AuSable Cleanup with the Anglers The Anglers have been doing this cleanup for over 20 years and we got in on it relatively recently. Maybe 10 years ago. They send out hundreds of fishermen to many locations on all three branches and then meet back up at the Gate's Lodge on Stephan Bridge Rd for a big party. We love their party! We had just 5 of us there and one was a DNR Americorp Volunteer who had paddled with us before. He brought the key to the Castle Gate. That allowed us to drive our cars down to the picnic area to load them. THANK YOU ALEX!!! Alex also showed us his summer project at which he restored the canoe landing at the DNR Castle Landing. It is much better than it was and it is also less destructive to the river bank. GOOD JOB ALEX!! Even when searching, we found only 7 pounds of trash today. That's fantastic. The Anglers have a great recycle and reporting program that works well for them. Here are the photos of today's project. Here is one being worn by one of our favorite people and a great cook, Colleen at Talley's Log Cabin Bar in Lewiston. Talley's is a longtime sponsor of the BRCS.
