Boardman River Downtown Section Cleanup September 14, 2019 We had a new face at our cleanup this year. Buz Z. of the Exchange Club wanted to see how we did cleanups and I think he had a good time finding out. Buz really got into it and did an excellent job using the kayak we provided. Paul and I had to be at a funeral at 11:00, so we got a shuttle provided by the Knight Cab Co. which worked very well. FAST AND CHEAP. We will use them in the future and not bother with the DYI shuttles. It is Salmon and Steelhead season and the river was very high and slow but we found a lot of trash on the banks and in the weeds. Lots of cans near the dam from fishermen and the homeless people who congregate there. As always, Terry found the most trash. Jacqui was a close second. We found quite a bit of fishing related litter but not as much as we had expected. The monofilament recycle bins provided with a grant from the ACA were being used by fishermen along the river. That is good news for us. Those bins cost 50.00 each and we placed 5 of them. That's a lot of fishing line that is not in the river. The portage of the Weir was very easy since the river was so high we could simply float up on the platform, drag over and reenter the river in one easy move. No photos there. We left the trash at the flooded boat ramp for the City to pick up. Thanks to the Holiday Inn for letting us use their back parking lot.
